Former model with endlessly long limbs, bright blonde tresses and an effortless sense of style.
Jerry Hall was staying at a hostel on the French Riviera when she was discovered sunbathing on a Saint Tropez beach by fashion agent Claude Haddad. She moved to Paris where she shared an apartment with singer Grace Jones (who at that time was also a model) and immersed herself in the Parisian nightlife, often performing risqué cabaret acts in clubs and parties with Jones. Soon after, she moved in with fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez and her modelling career began.
Early success launched Hall into a celebrity social scene that bore a string of highly publicized relationships. She began a secret affair with Jagger while still engaged to fiance Bryan Ferry. As a result, Ferry wrote many songs, such as “Kiss and Tell,” and “Cry, Cry, Cry”. Some believe that Ferry’s album The Bride Stripped Bare was documentation of his feelings about the breakup with Hall.
Jerry Hall’s Tall Tales
She has written her autobiography, entitled Jerry Hall’s Tall Tales, published in 1985. In this book, she describes her early life in Mesquite, Texas. She also relates her experiences as a young model, living a fabulous life in Paris.
Hall was one of the nine judges for the 1999 Whitbread Awards and sided with the majority in the contentious 5-4 decision to award the “Book of the Year” prize to Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf over J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
In the early 2000s she was noted for her theatrical performance as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate, including a nude scene on stage.
In 2005 Hall appeared on the West End stage playing Mother Lord in the London revival of Cole Porter’s High Society, and also provided the voice for Sister Penelope in the controversial British cartoon Popetown.
Jerry Hall‘s trademark long blonde hair and height of six feet have made her one of the most visible and photographed models in the industry.
